The Story Behind This Watch

I’ve been using my Nike c6 as my workout watch since March of 2006. It’s been a fine watch, tracking my time, heart rate and calories burned. But, since I dropped it after a workout in January of 2007 it’s had a dead line of pixels across the middle. Irritating, but it still worked. However, Jeffc on the PMWF kept posting about his Suunto T3 after some people had expressed interest. I learned that using optional equipment the watch could also track speed and distance, something that I was quite interested in since I started running outside this year. I had been using mapmyrun.com to calculate my distance after each different route I took through the ‘hood. It worked, but it was time consuming to do after each time. I finally decided to take the plunge after PMWFer Robmks got one and posted on the forum. After reading all the praise I was sold.

I checked out the models and immediately liked the reverse-display model. It looked cool – yes, that was my deciding factor – and the price was good at $155 shipped. I also bought a Foot POD which ataches to the shoe to transmit speed and distance data. After I got all the parts and put it together I went for my first run and was instantly impressed with the live data feedback. I knew right away where my speed was and how far I had gone. I love it. It’s very convenient to be able to quickly see the summary of my run.

There’s a lot more this watch does that I haven’t gotten into yet. I want to get the PC POD which will dump my workout data into the software and then display the info in various charts, graphs, etc., allowing me to better track my progress over time. Definitely a far better watch than the c6 (sorry Nike!).
