| The Story Behind This Watch |
I fell for this watch in January of 2006, and it was all Chris Moy’s fault. If you don’t know who Chris is, pop over to the PMWF and educate yourself. I was in New York in January of 2006 and Chris had one of these watches when we went to dinner one night. Before that I had seen them on the web and was not that blown away. After trying it on, however, I took a liking to it. Enough that I by the end of 2006 I decided to make sure that I had one by the end of 2007. Luckily, I was able to find one sooner than that.
I had some funds together and was looking, but every one I found went for more than I had (over $1k). I instead ended up with another watch, but a short time later found myself with the funds again, but not looking at the time. Thanks to a few forum members, I found my way to the Military Watch Resource and found a sales post by Sportmichael for a MINT, unworn example. I went back and forth for a day or two, and finally popped the question, was it still available? Well, it was. And I thought about it some more. Naturally. After a little while I considered what I would be getting: a mint, unworn example of this fairly rare (and getting more rare) timepiece. Given that, I opted to go for it.
He wasn’t kidding about the condition. The watch looks brand new, not a mark on it! And it wears as well as I remember. No regrets here, I feel lucky to get one in such fine shape. Even though it was not the full kit – no box or papers with this one. Such is sometimes the case when buying pre-owned pieces. I can live with it!
